What is a DSEAR Assessment Review?
A DSEAR gap analysis and peer review provides an independent and objective evaluation of your existing DSEAR assessment and management system to check that it is accurate, compliant, and aligned with industry good practice. As DSEAR and ATEX experts, we have seen a huge variance in the layout, content, and quality of DSEAR assessments, and there is often a lack of structure in the underlying management system.
Our gap analysis and peer review includes:
A full gap analysis against the DSEAR regulations and Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) requirements, with commentary on whether you fulfil the requirements or improvements need to be made
Review of the dangerous substances handled at your site, and confirm that everything has been adequately assessed
Review of the methodology used to conduct the hazardous area classification - this checks that appropriate standards and/or guidance has been used and applied correctly to your process
Review of the risk assessment to ensure it meets the requirements of Regulation 5 of DSEAR (click here for more details) and has given appropriate credit for safeguards and mitigation measures to accurately represent the risk
Check that any assumptions are valid, and that the reasoning has been properly documented
Identify any gaps or inconsistencies in the approach to the DSEAR assessment
Clear actions and a pathway to make your DSEAR assessment and management system compliant and stand up to the scrutiny of a regulatory body or key stakeholders
A peer review is often requested when organisations are conducting their own DSEAR assessments for the first time and may not be confident in their experience, or if a 3rd party has supplied a generic DSEAR assessment with an item or package of equipment. We are independent and objective, with no affiliations with any equipment manufacturers or suppliers.

DSEAR Gap Analysis Checklist - this is a comprehensive checklist which is created after reviewing your DSEAR assessment and management system. Commentary and clear actions where gaps are identified are provided against each regulation of DSEAR, providing you with a comprehensive route to compliance.
DSEAR Assessment Peer Review - we provide either of the following:
Technical Note which discusses the DSEAR assessment and identifies any gaps and provides recommendations to address them
Annotated DSEAR Assessment in which comments and tracked changes are applied to an existing assessment, allowing it to be updated in the client’s own format and style
